The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 in which you are now living 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
