Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
