The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
