The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
