Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
