The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
