Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
