The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
