The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
