The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
