Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
