The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace

۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
