Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
