Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
