The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
