The Town (Al-Balad)

In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
