Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
