The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
