Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
