The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
