The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
