The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
