The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
