۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
