The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
