The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
