The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
