The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
