Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
