The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
