The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
