The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
