The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
