The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
