The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
