The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
