The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
