The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
