The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
