The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
