The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
