The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
