The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
