The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
