The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
