The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
