The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
