The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
