The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
