The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
